The Snelling Bursary was created in 2006 as a result of a generous bequest to Oxted United Reformed Church by the late Irene Snelling. Since 2006 bursaries have been awarded to young people volunteering in many countries around the world. The projects ranged from 6 weeks to 18 months. Volunteers have worked in Guyana, Mexico, India, Uganda, Chile, South Africa and Ecuador.

The size of the bursary award depends on the nature and length of the voluntary project. For example, Rachel Berry, the first recipient of the Snelling Bursary, spent a year teaching in Guyana and was awarded £1000.

All the recipients are expected to either give a talk to one of our church groups or to write an account of their experiences for our Newsletter.
